Parts used: dried aerial parts.
Gather stalks at the time of flowering, which is usually between July and October. Dry in the shade, or dehydrate at a temperature of 100 degrees or lower.
Goldenrod has been traditionally used for upper respiratory illness, and in combination with other herbs in the treatment of influenza. It also has anti-inflammatory properties both internally and externally, and was traditionally used topically in the treatment of wounds. It has also been used as a gargle for laryngitis.
Preparation
Infusion: pour a cup of boiling water onto 2-3 teaspoonfuls of the dried herb and leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes. Can also be prepared into a tincture.
